50 and beyond

The deal was too good to be true

Yup. It was indeed too good a deal to be true and I fell for it.

Fake Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Baume

I have been using this product for several years now, maybe for about five years. You cannot find this particular product in the retail stores. They sell the moisturising cream in the retails stores, but you can only find the Intensive Baume cream in dermatologist clinics and online. In skin clinics, they sell for about $50 per bottle. But on Lazada, you can get it for around $34/bottle. And I’ve checked; they don’t sell them in the retail stores in JB.

Both my younger son D2 and I have eczema and so we use the cream. Recently, D2 requested that I purchase more as he was finishing his last bottle. So, I went to Lazada. They don’t have a flagship store on Lazada. I usually purchase from store where rating for the product is high.

However, while looking through the reviews this time, I found a site with a promotion—buy two get one free. So, I bought two. Well, I thought I was buying two bottles to get one bottle free. But when it was delivered, I realise that I had bought two sets. That meant I received six bottles. Wow. I worked out the math and was super pleased to know that each bottle cost me about $12 only. Wow. I placed the entire stash in D2’s room.

He confronted me that evening. He made go smell the product. It was heavily scented. This product is reputed to be unscented. He showed me the consistency—it was way more diluted than what we are used to. He showed me the bottle and asked me to examine it carefully. I compared it to a current bottle I as using. It looked identical; it’s only when I really studied it that I saw that there was a small variance in the positioning of the letters.

I was upset. Went back to the Lazada page and spend a lot of time trying to find the refund/return. I couldn’t find it. I asked ChatGPT and Gemini to help me but they weren’t able to as well. They kept giving me instructions that did not work. So, I tried and tried and finally managed to find a chat platform and made a complaint.

At the end of 48 hours of me making a request for a return, I was refunded full amount.

So there. The deal was too good to be true—it was a third of the usual Lazada price—and I fell for it.

I have stopped buying anything from Lazada. I was scammed once and they refused to let me return so I wrote to Lazada and they finally picked up and refunded. Lots of scammers and many reviews online as well. You can order a pair of shoes and get a keychain with a shoe.

I turned 50 last year! I used to think that 50 is middle-aged, but actually, since the life expectancy for females in Singapore is around 86, I have already lived more than half my life span.

Similar to my old blog https://hdbtaitaidotblog.wordpress.com/, this blog is a platform where I express my observations, thought and feelings about anything that interests me.

Welcome to my ordinary world.
